In order to make the most of the flowering of your orchids, your recipient will only have to follow these few tips, which will be included with your order:
- Exposition: demanding in light, it nevertheless cannot tolerate direct sun between April and September. In winter, it will be exposed to full sun.
- Temperature: must be between 15° and 25°C.
- Watering: absorbs very large quantities of water due to its large root system. It will be watered approximately twice a week from April to September-October and once a week in winter.
- Fertilizer: Zygopetalum is one of the fertilizer-intensive orchids, and during active vegetation, from March to October, the plants will be fed very regularly, i.e. every other watering. In winter, they will be fed once every 15 days.
- Repotting: will take place whenever the plants overflow the pot approximately every 2 or 3 years. The root system of Zygopetalums is so powerful that it can push the plant out of the pot or even break it when the plant is too cramped.
- Staying outside in summer: recommended, but sheltered from prolonged, cold rains which immediately stain the foliage. They will only be taken out into the garden when the minimum nighttime temperatures are around 15°C and brought back in the fall as soon as the temperatures are equal to or lower than this threshold.
